A tribute to Jo Cox MP who was brutally murdered on 16th June 2016. Some proceeds will go to The Labour Party and some to The Jo Cox Foundation.

It was in the West of Yorkshire, not so very long ago
A young woman, a politician was walking to her office door
Events upon that tragic day, the memory still shocks
A kind and gentle person died, and her name it was Jo Cox.

One week before the EU membership referendum drill
Some neo nazi terrorist took this as his licence to kill
I sing this loud and clear so that no one misunderstands
Those who put him up to it have Jo’s blood on their hands.

The man who stabbed and shot Jo Cox left her in the street to die
He said he had some reason, but no one can justify
The murder of a defenceless woman, a mother and a wife
A caring public servant, Jo Cox was in love with life.

She’d acted with compassion and for that she surely died
There are those who will deny that fact, but most of us just cried.
If you don’t speak out against this crime, a crime that’s so unjust
Then your eyes are filled with tabloid lies and propagandist dust.

This song is a reminder to the memory of Jo,
That this happened in God’s own county is further cause for woe
But for those of us who think like Jo, if we give all we can give,
We’ll make this glorious land of ours a better place to live.
